Ratcheting-Fatigue Behavior of Harmonic-Structure-Designed SUS316L Stainless Steel

Stainless steels with harmonic-structure design have a great balance of high strength and ductility. Therefore, it is imperative to investigate their fatigue properties for engineering applications. In the present work, harmonic-structured SUS316L stainless were fabricated by mechanical milling (MM) subsequent hot isostatic pressing (HIP) process. A series ratcheting-fatigue tests performed on under stress-control mode at room temperature. Effects grain structure stress-loading conditions ratcheting behavior life investigated. Results showed that size applied mean stress had significant influence ratcheting-strain accumulation life. Owing ultrafine grained structure, tensile could be enhanced, which restrained accumulation, resulting in prolonged higher caused faster led deterioration Moreover, modified model based Smith–Watson–Topper (SWT) criterion predicted well. Most fatigue-life points located 5 times error band.
